Work in progress. Preparing for the next Sketchbook Club is one of my favourite things to do. Jennie Maizels has created a gorgeous hot air balloons module where you paint with gouache straight into maps. Also, within the module, Jennie teaches a great technique for painting trees.

Small details in gouache without a teeny tiny brush were hard and the humidity meant the paint was taking forever to dry and kept muddling. 🤷🏼‍♀️ also made a 🐷 👂🏻 of sticking the map in the book but you can’t win them all. #sketchbookclubballoons ...

Flying high! It’s the last week of the summer holidays for us this week and it’s a week to sort, tidy and prepare for the coming term.
Over the very rainy bank holiday we had I completed another #sketchbookclub from jenniemaizels Certainly not my finest work and I found it quite tricky working freehand with the gouache and no outline to follow.
I’ve learnt lots with this one; how the gouache behaves, layering paints, brush control and shading. Great fun!

Made a very small start on the latest module for Sketchbook Club - hot air balloons! Since mine are flying over a very green map of Northern France and Belgium, they needed a bit of a white acrylic undercoat in preparation for loads of lovely bright colours.
