#sketchbookclubballoons My first ever sketchbook club module. I made life difficult for myself by cutting up an old worn map with lots of creases and tears - not a great surface for painting. While I am quite happy with the result I might attempt a version 2 on a nicer map - and maybe add some figures in the baskets...? All constructive criticism and feedback on my efforts welcome! Flying high! It’s the last week of the summer holidays for us this week and it’s a week to sort, tidy and prepare for the coming term.
Over the very rainy bank holiday we had I completed another #sketchbookclub from jenniemaizels Certainly not my finest work and I found it quite tricky working freehand with the gouache and no outline to follow.
I’ve learnt lots with this one; how the gouache behaves, layering paints, brush control and shading. Great fun!

Small details in gouache without a teeny tiny brush were hard and the humidity meant the paint was taking forever to dry and kept muddling. 🤷🏼‍♀️ also made a 🐷 👂🏻 of sticking the map in the book but you can’t win them all. #sketchbookclubballoons ...

Made a very small start on the latest module for Sketchbook Club - hot air balloons! Since mine are flying over a very green map of Northern France and Belgium, they needed a bit of a white acrylic undercoat in preparation for loads of lovely bright colours.

Work in progress. Preparing for the next Sketchbook Club is one of my favourite things to do. Jennie Maizels has created a gorgeous hot air balloons module where you paint with gouache straight into maps. Also, within the module, Jennie teaches a great technique for painting trees.
